24/Secrets & Lies
The Three Junior Stooges were subcontracted to put a roof on my barn. When they disappeared, so did my welder. I told the cops, and they found one of them—in jail. He admitted the theft, and revealed a secret: "We tried to steal the generator too, but we couldn't get it out the door."

This is post #2 for June, so I should be writing it on June 2. This is what I've done ever since our blogging project started in January...
Didn't get the welder back; it was long gone. The guy who subcontracted the stooges finished the roofing job, and three days later it started to peel off. Long (!) story short, I tried to sue him for months, but he couldn't be found. He was finally located—in jail. I knew I wouldn't get any money out of him, but at least I ruined his credit for five years.
ReplyDeleteI guess someone got mad enough to see to it that he went in jail. Hugs, Julia
DeleteOMG!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd in case you wonder how I found such a loser to do my barn roof, I was working at the time for a domestic violence agency and he was doing their roof. I approached him, thinking he must be good and reliable, not realizing he was a hit-or-miss employee of the roofing company they hired. This was one of several expensive trusting mistakes I made after my daughter died and my husband was deep into dementia.
ReplyDeleteThat must have been so difficult for you. If those are the only mistakes you made, then you should be proud.
