11/ Amazon reviews
I rely on Amazon reviews, but not all of them are useful. I don't know which I dislike more--the gushing, obviously fake positive reviews ("Best. Book. Ever!!!!!!) or the negative reviews that have nothing whatsoever to do with the product ("I can't believe my stupid brother-in-law gave this to me as a gift when he knows I already have one.")

This is post #2 for June, so I should be writing it on June 2. This is what I've done ever since our blogging project started in January...
Exactly!
ReplyDeleteReviews - of anything - can be useful if they give you enough reason why you like something. I've been a Tripadvisor user (reviewer and reader of reviews) since 2004, and can usually pick the reviews I want to read, and heed, and the ones I will ignore. Book reviews - on Amazon or Goodreads - are much harder, because you never know what else is in their bookshelf.
ReplyDeleteHa!
ReplyDeleteI only read the 3 and 4 reviews. I don't trust the 5s or the 1s and 2s. The money reviews that give real information are all in the 3 and 4 range.
ReplyDeleteFor books, I often do the opposite. I skip the 1-line reviews, good or bad, but if I'm undecided about a book I always take a look at the 1s and 2s. I know I tend to be a critical reader, and if they complain about specific faults in the writing and/or poor character development (or no characters to care about) I know the book isn't for me.
