I used to say my fortune was in sheet music. Looking at my shelves and the accumulation on the piano I can say it still. Song/fake books from Baez, Berlin (Irving), Beatles, Collins, Diamond, and Dylan to Ronstadt, Sinatra, Torch songs (5), Ultimate Jazz, and Willie (Nelson). Broadway . . . Children's . . . Christmas . . . Doo-Wop . . . Folk . . . Irish . . . Weddings. All the songs I once loved to sing.

This is post #2 for June, so I should be writing it on June 2. This is what I've done ever since our blogging project started in January...
I love this! And I just nostalgically bought some sheet music: https://www.rachaelandvilray.com/store
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea--sheet music art! I have some sheet music from the early 1900's, from my stepmother's family. Some of those would look good under glass, even ones with tattered edges.
DeleteBut no more? Or do you still love to sing them?
ReplyDeleteI'm not certain of the answer to that, Helen. Among my friends, I was always known as a singer more than anything else. In adulthood, although a couple of friends were music teachers and accomplished pianists, at a party I'd be the one called upon to play so we could all sing. I'm sure it was because, unlike them, I didn't care whether I made a mistake or not. All the parties I gave were for people who loved to sing. I even advertised for people to sing with when I moved here. I sang with my kids when they were little, and they developed their own musical talents. My daughter Jill was a performance music major in college, and she and I loved making music together. But over time everything changed, and there was a period of years when I didn't go near the piano. Today I sing occasionally--maybe one song before bed, but not often. I've lost my motivation, and quite possibly my voice as well. It's the old "if you don't use it you lose it" thing, and I'd have to put some effort into seeing if I could gain control of it again. I don't know if I'll do that or not.
DeleteYou sing? You're lucky. I hope you still sing.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mali. I just posted above. Didn't see your comment beforehand.
