11/Secrets & Lies
After months of crank breastfeeding calls from my stepdaughter's classmates, I was prepared. When a woman called to tell me in a heavily-accented voice that she'd lost her dog, I said, 'You mean you lost your breast!" I'd forgotten the notice I'd posted years earlier on a vet's bulletin board, offering to help locate lost pets.

ReplyDeleteOur conversation was hilarious, because it took me so long to realize this was a legit person who'd lost her dog. Her initial reaction was (think heavy accent), "My brayst?" She said, "I was walking my dog..." and I cut her off, saying, "You were walking your breast!" Yes, I really said that. I was so committed to thinking this was one of the crank callers. When I finally got it, I was panicked. She asked where I was located, and I said, "Not here!" She said, "You are somevere else?" Oh, the poor woman! Not only had she lost her dog, but she managed to call a certifiably crazy person.
