The price of the Attic Heirlooms oak armoire was $800 in the furniture store where I'd shopped before. I learned North Carolina furniture factories sell direct. I got a price, and went back to the store. "I can buy it online for $600 tax-free. I'll buy it from you if you sell it to me for $570 plus tax." He did.

ReplyDeleteI usually buy antique or used furniture (and I almost always do some minor bargaining), but this was the only time I did the above. The armoire was a computer armoire, something unavailable at antique stores. :-)

ReplyDeleteThat was my major foray into hard bargaining. Usually I just say things like, "What's your best price on this?" Or, "Will you take $75?"
